A Door Opens …. IT Goals
So I got an email on Monday…
1ST QTR, FY13, VTIP Applicant,
We will release the results on 10 January 2013. Results will be posted to the VTIP webpage after 0900 Eastern Time. For those who are approved, to complete your branch transfer you will need to sign and return your VTIP contract.
So here it is. Today is the day. And now I wait. And hit refresh, each time I log into my machine a quick press of the F5.
1752 Hours, I hit F5 once more, only now … its loading slower…
The words stating that the announcement would be available in January has been replaced by:

OSTRANDER JEN, CPT has been accepted to transfer from the Logistics Branch (LG) to the Functional Area 53 (FA53) What is FA 53 you might ask? Speak English to me please
“Unique purpose of the Information Systems Management FA. Information Systems Management (FA 53) is a FA in the network and space operations grouping of the operations support functional category. Information System Managers integrate diverse forms of enterprise services such as configuration management, active directory, database management, e-mail, and Web portals that must operate seamlessly in support of the Army and JIIM operations worldwide. FA 53 officers supply their expertise of all enterprise systems technologies, along with their knowledge of highly technical concepts, in order to provide the warfighter with the information required to make timely decisions on the battlefield. Thank you: Army Link
I know your probably shaking your head and wondering why such excitement, or maybe you know me and know I’ll be happily absorbing knowledge at Fort Gordon Georgia when I get out of here. Or maybe you know me REALLY well and know that I started out in the Army in 1989 with an enlisted MOS of 72G, Communications Center Operator. After becoming an officer in 2001, and getting branched Ordnance, I had thought my chances to return to Signal would never happen. Then I heard about VTIP. Voluntary Transfer Incentive Programs, where the Army lists out branches that you are in, and tells you based on your year group if they can release you and what areas they could release you too.
When I got deployed, I had gotten an email telling me that they VTIP site was back up, and after checking my year group was excited to see that FA 53 was available for my year group. [ there is another loooong boring Army story as to why my year group is what it is ] Regardless, while it may have been a scarring event, it has opened the door for me, so all things happen for a reason!
Doing the happy dance!
& no this doesn’t mean my deployment is over… school will begin after. Still doing the Happy Dance!
