The story of US!
Fletcher and I met in Maryland. Officer Basic Course at good old Aberdeen Proving Ground, Home of Ordnance. This was in July of 2003. We were friends with the same crazy group of other LT’s at school that enjoyed BBQ’s, workouts at the gym, trips to Baltimore, and hanging out traveling the East Coast together. We enjoyed a lot of the same places and things to do.
It hasn’t been easy, he is Active Duty in the Army. I am National Guard Army out of California. After we completed our school in Maryland we stayed in touch as he was sent to his first Permanent Duty station in Korea. I went back to work in California. He visited a few times and we emailed, stayed in touch, stayed friends.
Then he was deployed to Iraq in June of 2004. I received my orders shortly after in October of that same year. So there we were, same country – 4 hours apart. Email, phone calls, attempted Black Hawk Trips and Convoys all failed to allow us to see each other in that Sandy hell hole we called home for a year. He returned to Ft. Carson Colorado by July of 2005 and I demobilized and returned to California in November of 2005. We decided to meet up again before Christmas.
I had come home. From that moment on we have been joined again, best friends and in love. Very much so. Each month was an adventure. We would get a 4 day weekend or leave and trade each month to fly to where the other was at. Maryland, Conneticut, Rhode Island, Virginia, California… the list continued into 2006 when Fletcher found out again he would begin his second tour to Iraq. This time from his duty station in Germany. I flew to visit him for a week, planning that before he left in May he would visit me once more and his family once again before he deployed.
With the seperation looming in front of us, we looked at our life. We know how important Kayla is and went to her to ask how she would feel if we got married. This would mean 11th and 12th Grade would be in… GERMANY. It was asking a lot of her to move. We would do it, 2010 would be our year. But we really hoped that she would understand. Our biggest fears were me getting mobilized again or by 2010 he’d get mobilized again. Thats apart of our lives, we really face the fact that the future just never is in stone.
She finally agreed it might be fun, most of her Senior friends were graduating. And plus? She could really get a chance to see Europe and its FASHION. Fletcher and I married in May of 2007, we have been married a year and are finally looking forward to moving in together.
This is our story, and the blogs… are our lifes travels and adventures together. ENJOY!
